Roger Lee Shockey, 62, of Keyser, W. Va., died on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born Aug. 11, 1949, in Lima, the son of Roselyn M. (Byrne) and Edward L. Shockey, of Wapakoneta. Both parents survive. He married Esther Rodriguez, who also survives.
Also surviving are a son, Benjamin (Karin) Shockey, of York, Pa.; two daughters, Charis (Steve)Taylor, of Baltimore, Md., and Meghan (Josh Welch) Thomas, of Burlington, W.V.; two sisters, Darlene (Gary) Binkley and Sharon (William) Sammetinger; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Taylor, Amanda Shockey, Zachary Taylor, Shawn Taylor, Jacquelynn Shockey, Michael Taylor, Haleigh Rose Welch and Hunter Welch; and five nieces and nephews, Kyle Binkley, Amy Binkley, Craig Sammetinger, Chris Sammetinger and Nick Sammetinger.
Roger attended Kent State University and was an office graphics specialist for the U. S. Government Department of Interior and also an associate with his sons in the S.E. Taylor Association. He was a U.S. Marine Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Third Order of Franciscan, Knights of Columbus, former CCD teacher at Assumption Church, Director of Mineral County Right to Life and VFW Post 3518, Nancy Hanks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Keyser where military honors will be accorded.
Friends were able to call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 at Markwood Funeral Home in Keyser.
A Christian wake service was held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Monday.
