Norma Jeanne (Earl) Lontz, 85, passed away Nov. 6, 2011.
A lifelong resident of Auglaize County, she was born Sept. 11, 1926, grew up near Geyer and New Hampshire and lived in Uniopolis and Wapakoneta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Norman Earl; husbands, Darrell Dean Coate and Junior Lontz; a sister, Ida Lou Springer; and a granddaughter, Jeanne Brown.
She is survived by children, Sally (Joseph) Peyton, of Hillard, Pat (Jeff) Brown, of Wapakoneta, and Larry Dean Coate, of San Francisco; brothers, Roger Earl, of Fremont, Mich., and Charles Wendell (Helen) Earl, of Spanish Fort, Ala.; grandchildren, Daniel Peyton, Jennifer Brown, Niki (Ben) Niemeyer, Todd (Niki) Oren, Mark (Sebina) Oren, Mathew Coate and Daniel Coate; and seven great-grandchildren along with several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Norma Jeanne graduated from Blume High School and worked at the Lima Tank Depot during World War II. Although most of her life she was a homemaker, she attended Northwestern Business College after her children were grown and she was widowed.
She was employed at Sears and the Auglaize Soil and Water Conservation District through a senior employment program.
Later she served as a home aide and companion to elderly residents in Wapakoneta and Botkins.
Norma Jeane was mostly homebound in the latter years of her life and valued special friends Stephanie and Matt Green and their children who assisted and spent time with her. She welcomed the sense of security and friendly voices she got daily through Operation Safeguard — the senior daily call-in program of the Wapakoneta Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wapakoneta Fire Prevention Fund of the Wapakoneta Fire Department.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Cridersville, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis.
