Klor A. Newland, 70, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:26 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Lima, the son of Leona C. Rimer and Harry Washington Newland. Both parents are deceased. On Oct. 15, 1988, he married Sandra Joe Foote, who survives in Wapakoneta.
He retired in 1988 as an induction melt furnace operator with Ohio Steele/Teledyne Ohio Steele/Whemco Ohio Foundry in Lima. He was a member of Waynesfield Baptist Church. He was a former vice president of UAW Local 975, the former mayor of Waynesfield, and very active with the Democratic Party. He was also the founding member of the UTCA Club.
He loved spending time with his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. He was an avid football and basketball fan, always cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State. He enjoyed talking and never knew a stranger. After retirement he treasured time traveling with his wife. They wintered in Southern Texas, traveled to China, Europe, Mexico and all over the United States.
Surviving are a son, K. David (Jennifer) Newland, of Westminster; a daughter, Kris M. (Scott) Lowry, of Findlay; five grandchildren, Ashley, Brittney, Courtney, Kyle and Zane; a brother-in-law, Joel B. (Anne) Foote, of Wauseon; two nieces, Kim (Ron) Towsey and Lisa Davenport; two nephews, Joel Foote and Colin Foote; six great-nephews, Austin, Keaton, Patrick, Alex, Jack and Declan; a great-niece, Olivia; and a former wife, Carolyn I. Graham.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Waynesfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Branch Cemetery in Waynesfield.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or the church.
