ANNA — The Botkins Trojans varsity girls cross country team continued its successful season with a second-place finish at the 14-team Anna Rocket Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Shelbie Bailey led the way for the Trojans, finishing 12th overall with a time of 20:49.
Rounding out the top seven for Botkins were Brittany Bailey (14-20:59), Liz Knoop (17th-21:05), Bethany Christman (32-22:00), Elleah Cooper (41-22:14), Jackie Smith (45-22:36) and Renee Buehler (64-23:10).
The boys team finished ninth of 20 teams. Botkins’ top seven were Roger Miller (21-17:50), Austin Jones (25-17:56), Seth Hoying (59-18:57), Tyler Egbert (65-19:07), Josh Schwartz (66-19:08), Lucas Buehler (71-19:13) and Ross Kohler (92-19:42).
For the second week in a row, the Trojans junior high boys were crowned champions, placing first of 16 teams. Cameron Flora was the individual winner with a time of 11:07, tying his own mark as the fastest junior runner in Botkins history.
The junior high girls placed third of 10 teams.
Klock seeded 2nd
Wapakoneta Redskin senior Makenzie Klock won her Division II semifinal match against Ottawa-Glandorf’s Emily Ruhe 6-3 6-1 on Saturday.
In her next match, Klock fell 6-4, 6-3 to top seed Lauren Rovner of Shawnee 6-4, 6-3. Klock advances as the second seed heading into districts on Wednesday.
Wapak seeded fourth
The Redskins varsity team picked up the No. 4 seed in the Division sectional pairings on Sunday.
Wapak will face No. 5 seed Elida at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Shawnee High School. The winner will play top-seed St. Marys at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Other seeds were Celine (No. 2) and Shawnee (No. 3).
Trojans edge Rangers
Botkins edged New Knoxville 2-1 in a varsity match Saturday at New Knowxville.
Ethan Zimpfer and Tyler Egbert scored goals for the Trojans.
’Skins face top seed
Wapak will face No. 1 seed Celina in the Division II sectional semifinal at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Celina.
No. 2 seed St. Marys will face Van Wert at 4 p.m.
Wapak edges Raiders
Wapakoneta defeated Russia 3-2 in a varsity match on Saturday.
Krissy Stienbaugh tied a school record with 22 kills. Amber Dickerson had 28 digs. And Nicole Brown added 43 assists.
