The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls volleyball team improved its record to 9-6 with a four-game win over the Indian Lake Lakers on Monday at Wapakoneta High School.
Wapak won handily in the first two games — 25-18 and 25-13 — before the Lakers bounced back to take the third game 25-19.
But the Redskins were too much for Indian Lake in the fourth, pulling out a 25-18 win.
Senior hitters Morgan Quellhorst and Krissy Stienbaugh led Wapak with 12 kills each.
Quellhorst added four blocks. Junior libero Amber Dickerson had 30 digs.
Dickerson and Stienbaugh both recorded five aces. Junior setter Nicole Brown had 38 assists.
Wapak returns to action Thursday at home against Ottawa-Glandorf.
SIDNEY — The Wapakoneta Redskins girls team placed second and the boys team third on Saturday.
The girls team scored 100 points to finish behind Centerville (34) in the nine-team meet.
The top seven finishers for Wapak were junior Elizabeth Martin (11th-21:43), freshman Courtney Mosgrove (20th-22:25), freshman Megan Watt (37th-23:34), junior Kati O’Neil (42nd-23:43), freshman Morgan Miller (43rd-23:45), sophomore Nicole King (46th-24:04) and freshman Rachel Swick (48th-24:07).
The boys team scored 104 points to finish behind Riverside Stebbins (41) and Kettering Fairmont (56) out of eight teams.
The Redskins’ top seven finishers were senior Caleb Hennon (16th-18:17), sophomore Sam Harrod (19th-18:36), junior John Martin(21st-18:40), freshman Hayden Brandenhoff (23rd-18:50), freshman Alec Benny (25th-19:06), sophomore Billy Butler (30th-19:18) and junior Ryan O’Neil (32nd-19:24).
Tour De Sewer
VERSAILLES — The Botkins Trojans varsity girls team placed second and the boys sixth in wet conditions Saturday at the 10th annual Versailles Tour De Sewer.
The girls finished second out of 10 teams. The top seven were Brittany Bailey (6th-20:50), Shelbie Bailey (10th-21:06), Liz Knoop (11th-21:19), Elleah Cooper (24th-22:26), Jackie Smith (31st-22:57), Renee Buehler (35th-23:04) and Bethany Christman (42nd-23:37).
The boys finished sixth of 11. The top seven were Austin Jones (19th-18:33), Roger Miller (23rd-18:42), Lucas Buehler (37th-19:13), Seth Hoying (42-19:20), Josh Schwartz (53-19:34), Tyler Egbert (72-20:19) and Ross Kohler (77-20:38).
Trojans trip Cavs
COLDWATER — Botkins set the tone defensively in a win Saturday at Coldwater.
The Trojans heldthe Cavaliers to just five total shots with three of those being on-goal.
Botkins dominated the playing field with 99 team steals against Coldwater’s 67. The team leaders in steals for the Trojans were Michaela Kramer with 17, Hannah Koch 15 and Caitlin Lane 13.
Koch continued her strong performance capping off the day with two assists, linking up with Claire McCullough and Kramer for goals to give her five assists on the year.
Botkins added a late second-half goal by McCullough assisted by Koch and Lane.
The Trojans took 20 total shots against Coldwater with 13 of those being on-goal. Jennifer Rupersburg finished the day with three saves and five steals for her fourth shutout of the year.
Botkins is now 6-7 on the season.
Knights nip Redskins
VAN WERT — Wapakoneta Redskins varsity golf coach Ken Wayman gave his junior varsity players a chance in a varsity meet against Crestview on Monday at Hickory Sticks.
The Redskins came up just short, losing by three strokes, 199-202.
“I thought the kids responded well considering that was only their second match of the year,” Wayman said.
Leading the way was freshman Lucas Lightle with a 46, sophomore Alex Gossard with a 49, Zach Miller 53, Ryan Hunlock 54, Nick Buchanan 55, and Daniel Bogan with a 56.
