The Redskins were just six strokes behind third-place Minster’s 330.
The Botkins Trojans fired a 342 to finish eighth.
“We played much better today both physically and mentally,” Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. “It seemed we played much smarter golf throughout the round.”
Caleb Acheson led the Redskins with a 75, the third-best individual score in the tournament.
“I’m glad he broke 80 for the first time this year,” Wayman said. “Hopefully he will continue to shoot in the 70’s to give our team a better chance to win in the upcoming WBL matches. Caleb is capable of shooting in the 30’s in every single nine-hole match we play this year.”
Freshman Drew Wayman turned in an 83. Bobby Crow and Josh Apple both carded 89’s.
Apple was playing in just his third match as a golfer. Gerlach shot a 93 in just his fourth tournament.
“Josh is starting to understand how to play this game,” Ken Wayman said. “He is getting a better feel for the game. Marshall ... is also starting to get a feel for the game and playing consistent golf.”
Aaron Johnson rounded ouut the Wapak scoring with a 103.
“For the most part our guys stayed away from the big number holes,” Ken Wayman said. “We either bogeyed or pared the hole. There were just a few doubles on the scorecard.”
Wapak will be back in action 8:30 Friday morning at the Celina Invitational.
