LIMA — The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys golf team finished a disappointing fifth in the Rob Contini Memorial tournament Monday at Hawthorne Hills golf course in Lima.
Lima Central Catholic won the event with a team score of 306. Wapak turned in a 361.
“We didn’t play very well. We had a few mental errors that cost us a few strokes,” Wapak coach Ken Wayman said.
Bobby Crow led the Redskins with a team-best 86. Josh Apple shot an 89. Aaron Johnson recorded a 92. Drew Wayman turned in a 94. And Marshall Gerlach carded a 99.
Caleb Acheson was disqualified for finishing a hole with a wrong golf ball.
“This tournament gave me a few teachable moments in the game of golf for these young players,” Ken Wayman said.
Rounding out the team scoring was Elida (2nd, 332), Bath (3rd, 348), Shawnee (4th, 353), Allen East (6th, 362) and Spencerville (7th, 430).
LCC’s Josh Klaus and Austin Goodridge tied for medalist honors with matching 74’s.
Wapak returned to action this morning at New Bremen. The Redskins will compete in the Celina Invitational on Friday morning at 8:30.
