Sandra K. “Katie” Phillips died at 5:20 a.m., Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 18, 1944, in Wapakoneta to Violet (Grothaus) and Eugene “Red” Dill who preceded her in death. On Feb. 22, 1964, she married William I. Phillips who survives in St. Johns.
Mrs. Phillips was a registered nurse and she retired as the office manager for Physicians Inc. after 19 years of service. She was a graduate of Wapakoneta High School, Apollo School for LPN, and Rhodes College of Nursing earning her degree of registered nurse. She was a past president of the board of Marimor Industries, past president of the women’s club of Lima and started the medical office managers group in Lima, Ohio. She was a member of the Ohio State Nursing Association and was a medical office consultant and designer. She loved traveling the world with her grandsons and just being with them and was always doing cross stitch, needlepoint and knitting for gifts. She was a very strong person and wonderful mother who will be sadly missed.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth (Scott) Bowersock, of Wapakoneta; one son, William D. (Cherie) Phillips, of Lima; three very precious grandsons, Joseph D. Norton, who is in the U.S. Air Force in Arizona, and W. Benjamin Phillips and Samuel G. Phillips, both of Lima; one brother, Eugene “Sandy” (Jackie) Dill of Lima; and one sister, Connie (Nelson) Veit of Wapakoneta.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William R. Dill.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Service, Shawnee Chapel. Mrs. Phillips will be cremated.
Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
