ALLENTOWN — California native Randy Hannagan became the eighth different winner of the Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invader’s Run for the Rabbit on Friday night at Limaland Motorsports Park.
The event honors the late Limaland Motorsports Park racer Travis “Rabbit” Miller.
Hannagan entered the 25-lap feature as the NRA point’s leader with two wins including last Saturday night at Eldora Speedway. He started on the front row, alongside J.R. Stewart, and led flag-to-flag for the win.
Hannagan blasted to the front at the start. Even though he never surrendered the lead, he gave the fans some genuine excitement as he battled with Stewart side-by-side for the first 20 laps.
The veteran Stewart had raced in go-karts against Travis Miller years ago and was intent on winning his second Rabbit feature.
With Hannagan ruling the middle groove on the track, Stewart decided the best way around was on the bottom as the track was moist and dangerously fast on the cushion at the topside.
“J.R. is a lot of fun to race with as we ran wheel-to-wheel for quite sometime,” Hannagan said. “It’s a pleasure to race with guys like that.”
Stewart was never able to secure the lead finished in the runner-up position.
Wapakoneta’s Mike Miller took third in posting his best result of the current campaign.
Jerry Bowersock, also of Wapakoneta, held off a host of challengers and drove to the win in the K&N UMP Modifieds.
Bowersock survived a crash-filled race that eliminated several contenders and led the final six laps for the win.
“The surface was wet and fast and I thought it may turn into that tonight,” Bowersock said. “I didn’t know Terry (Hull) suffered a flat tire on one of the restarts. We’ve only really been good this year when the track is wet so I guess it was a blessing it rained earlier.”
Tony Anderson won the Budweiser Thunderstocks 15-lap feature to take sole possession of first-place in the points.
Keith Ralston finished second with Kevin Gossard in third.
Friday night is the Fricke Memorial Thunderstock Select, a special format event following the features. Also the Elwer Fence Sprints, Modifieds and Thunderstocks will compete.
Waynesfield Raceway Park was canceled due to weather Saturday night.
Eldora Speedway had no scheduled racing on Saturday.
