An area theatre group has been practicing hard for the past five weeks and has been putting the final touches on their upcoming musical.
The Waynesfield-Goshen Muchinippi Theatre presents “Seussical,” this Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. in the Waynesfield-Goshen School Auditeria.
The company picked this musical because their idea was to involve as many children as possible.
“We try to, in the summer, involve as many children as we can,” co-producer Pat Noykos said. “We have something where the kids can participate.”
The WG Muchinippi Theatre group holds two productions a year, and the summer production is targeted toward the kids to get them involved.
Noykos said that there are many children in the musical this weekend, from 5 years old up to 18 years of age, along with some adults.
The musical “Seussical” also was picked because the parts fit well with all the people wanting to participate.
This musical will be a combination of “Horton Hears a Who!” and “Horton Hatches the Egg,” along with numerous characters from approximately 15 other Dr. Seuss books, including The Grinch.
The program to the play will include a synopsis of the play, and the musical will begin with the director reading the synopsis to catch up the audience so they know what to expect, and then the Cat in the Hat will take over as narrator.
Horton Hears a Who! is about Horton the Elephant and his struggle to protect a microscopic family, known as The Whos, from his neighbors, who refuse to believe the family is real. This book by Dr. Seuss was written in 1954, and was the second book to feature Horton the Elephant. The first book is Horton Hatches the Egg, which will also be acted out in this musical combining the two books.
Horton Hatches the Egg is about how Horton agrees to watch over an egg, while the mother bird is on vacation. Horton, the Elephant, is left sitting on the egg to protect it, and the many adventures that occur during this time.
Noykos said that the cast and crew are enjoying the musical, and it is a fun production.
The other co-producer is Kari Spencer and the directors are Amy and Chip Noykos.
Seussical will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the Waynesfield-Goshen School Auditeria.
