Wapakoneta freshman Allie Zofkie garnered a 10th-place finish Saturday in Section H of the OHSAA Early Season Invitational in girls cross country competition. Zofkie was the Wapakoneta Redskins’ first finisher with a time of 20 minutes, 30.38 seconds.

The invitational was held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, the site of the OHSAA cross country state championships.

Wapak finished 16th out of 17 teams in Section H with 402 points.

Ending in second for the Redskins was another freshman, Sydney Sutton, who finished with a time of 24:03.39.

A total of 148 runners finished the Section H race Saturday, which was comprised of small Division I schools and large Division II schools.

Wapak’s girls cross country team will be competing in Division I for the next two school years after switching from Division II.

Saturday’s invitational was the first event of the season for Wapak.

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary was the runaway team champion Saturday in Section H, tallying just 35 points as its top five runners each finished in the top 11. SVSM is the four-time defending state champion in Division II.

Six total girls races were held Saturday in Hebron, four of which were scored, including Section H. Races were divided into sections based on size of schools competing.

This was the second year for the invitational at the site of the state championship meets, which will be held this year for the third time on Saturday, Nov. 2.
