William Richard â€śDickâ€ť Hatfield, 93, of Waynesfield, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at his daughterâ€™s home in Rushylvania surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Alger, the son of Icy (Bennett) and William R. Hatfield. On Jan. 31, 1940, he married Charlotte Focht and she survives in Waynesfield.
Also surviving are a son, Michael (Sonya) Hatfield, of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Pamela (Bill) Wreede, of Rushylvania, nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Hatfield; and a sister, Elizabeth Rutter.
He was a 1937 graduate of Waynesfield High School, a member of Waynesfield United Methodist Church, and United Auto Workers 1219 in Lima. He was a past member of the Waynesfield Lionâ€™s Club and was a former mayor of Waynesfield. He was formerly a member of the Wayne Township Fire Department where he had served as chief. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in Lima after 22 years of service. Dick and his brother Joe had been the owners/operators of a grocery store in Waynesfield.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Waynesfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kathleen Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Branch Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Armentrout Funeral Home in Waynesfield.
