William A. Bachman, 96, of Christiansburg, passed away at 9:18 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 in Sterling House of Urbana.
Born on Nov. 14, 1915, in Wapakoneta, William was a son of the Agnes (DuVall) and late Rudolf Bachman. He married Mary Alice Berg on Oct. 30, 1941, and they enjoyed 70 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Christiansburg; a son and daughter-in-law, William Rudolf â€śRudyâ€ť and Cindy Bachman of St. Paris; and a daughter Anna Colby of Christiansburg. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Steven (Lori) Bachman of Hillsboro; Megan (David) Eiford-Noonan of Hudsonville, Mich., and Christina Cozart, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Shawn (Julie) Bachman of Guam, and Lynn and Morgan Cozart, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and a step great great-grandson. One brother, Matthias â€śTyâ€ť Bachman of Midland, Texas; and a sister Mary (William) Wadsack of Lake Charles, La.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Marvin Colby, Jr.; sisters, Elizabeth Bachman and Doris LeBlanc; and brothers James and John Bachman.
William was a 1933 graduate of Blume High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the New Carlisle American Legion Post. He retired in 1969 as a flight line mechanic at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Fairborn. He also drove a school bus for 10 years for the Graham School District.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris with the Rev. Greg Konerman of Sacred Heart Catholic Church presiding.
Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in St. Josephâ€™s Cemetery, Wapak-Fisher Road, Wapakoneta.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.
