Waynesfield OKs survey on gas pipeline

January 28, 2014

WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield Village Council approved a survey to assess the community’s response to a proposal to construct a natural gas pipeline through the village.

At a council meeting Monday night, Orwell Natural Gas Co. representative Giselle Felice proposed a plan that would cost $3.5 million dollars for the first phase of construction on the pipeline. The proposal also required that 75 percent of homeowners in Waynesfield sign up for natural gas before the project can proceed.

For residents wishing to utilize natural gas, it will cost $1,000 to aid in the construction of the gas line, upwards of $925 for the cost of the line and a charge of $9 a month for the actual gas service. An additional fee may also be assessed if a resident has an outdated water heater or propane furnace that needs to be replaced.
