WASS hosts fall alley party
Local downtown shops are getting together to host a fall festival.
Pickin’ in the Alley is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, in the alley, behind Casa Chic and Fern Hill Farmhouse.
“This is our first year for this, and we thought it would be fun,” Casa Chic co-owner and Wapakoneta Antique and Specialty Shops (WASS) President Landa Tomlinson said.
WASS is sponsoring this event, and so far Casa Chic, Fern Hill Farmhouse and Rustic Design are participating in this event by hosting a sale on merchandise and fall festivities to bring in the season.
Tomlinson said the idea came about when a vendor was unloading their merchandise to be sold in a downtown shop, and someone saw the merchandise, and came into the store and purchased the item that they took interest in, as it was being unloaded.
So now the local shops decided to move some of their merchandise outside and host a sale.
“We will be bringing out a lot of stuff from the floor, and slashing prices,” Tomlinson said. “Along with vendors bringing in new items.”
Free popcorn and cider, along with hot dogs for purchase will be available.
All of the proceeds from the refreshments will go toward the Juvenile Diabetes Walk.
Tomlinson said this is a cause they wanted to help because Casa Chic co-owner Laura Clementz’s grandson was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when he was 3 years old. Also, an employee from Rustic Design has also been battling this disease.
“We thought this would be a good idea,” Tomlinson said, “so we picked a day, and we hope to do this again.”
The other shops downtown were unable to participate in the event because of conflict in schedules, but Tomlinson said this first year will be a trial run, and she hopes to add to it for the next time.
Another reason the group is hosting this event is to celebrate fall.
“People will be able to enjoy the outside weather,” Tomlinson said.
If it rains, the event will be taken inside, in each of the three stores.
“We hope this is an event that can continue to grow,” Tomlinson said.
