Wapakoneta Redskins juniors Dallas Ambos and Colton Brown reached the second day of the state wrestling tournament with a win in the first round of the consolation bracket Thursday.

Redskins freshman Landon Hall was eliminated from the state tournament Thursday on the first day of competition, as he lost his first round matches in both the championship and consolation brackets.

The trio represented the Wapakoneta Redskins in Columbus on Thursday at the start of the Division II state high school wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University.

In the first round of the 145-pound championship, Ambos dropped a 7-6 overtime decision Thursday to Coventry junior Zack Lake.

He then managed a 5-1 win by decision over Steubenville sophomore Shawn Livingston in the first round of the consolation bracket.

In the second round of the consolation bracket today, Ambos will face the loser of the championship quarterfinal match between St. Paris Graham senior Micah Jordan, who is 45-0 this season and committed to Ohio State, and Mantua Crestwood junior Nick Wrobel.

In his first match Thursday, Brown, at 195 pounds, was pinned at 3:06 by Johnstown-Monroe senior Clayton Bullard, who is now 49-0 this season.

Brown dropped to the consolation bracket where he pinned Carlisle senior James Ritchie at 4:00 to advance to today’s competition.

Brown will wrestle the loser of the championship quarterfinal match between St. Paris Graham junior Josh Couchman and Perkins senior John Workman, whom Brown lost to in the third-place match Saturday at the district tournament in Bowling Green.

With a win today, Ambos and Brown can each guarantee themselves a top-eight finish in their respective weight classes.

The consolation bracket second round matches will begin at 1 p.m. today.

In the 182-pound bracket, Hall was narrowly defeated in a 2-1 decision by Urbana sophomore Jack Harris, who is now 47-2 this season.

Hall then was pinned at 2:34 by Richfield Revere senior Ahmad Khatib in the first round of the consolation bracket, eliminating him from the tournament.

Hall ended his freshman campaign with a 24-13 record.
