Wapakoneta wins district tournament; Krites 1st
The Wapakoneta Redskins are rolling toward the state tournament, and one of the Redskins’ seniors, Austin Krites, was the top individual bowler by a wide margin in Saturday’s district tournament.
After claiming the team title at the only Northwest District sectional the previous week, the Redskins won the district’s team title Saturday in the Division I district tournament at Lex Lanes in Lexington, claiming the only state qualifying spot to take.
After three games and six Baker games, Wapak totaled a team score of 4,325 pins, well more than 300 in front of the runner-up and an improvement of 447 pins from its sectional performance.
Wapak had four games of more than 223 pins out of six Baker matches. The other three teams combined for three games higher than 200.
Krites (242-278-224) rolled a 744 series Saturday, 84 pins ahead of the runner-up. His second game score of 278 was a season high.
Including his 233 in the third game at sectionals, Krites’ last four games rank in his top five scores for the entire season.
The next three Wapak bowlers finished in places 8-10.
Brandon Kennard (223-179-188) had a 590 series, one pin ahead of Blake Knueve (200-210-179), who was three pins ahead of Chandler Kaeck (176-222-188).
Trevor Copeland rolled 192 and 179 in two games.
The Division I state championships will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus.
The Redskins’ state appearance Friday will be the team’s third in four years.
