From staff reports

The Wapakoneta Redskins won their closest match of the season Tuesday, managing a 3-2 win over the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in a non-league varsity girls tennis match at the Collett Street Courts in Lima.

Wapak’s win Monday maintained the team’s undefeated record, which is now 11-0.

The Redskins won all three singles matches Tuesday, while LCC won both doubles matches each in three sets.

In first singles, Kaitlin Snider posted a 6-2, 6-1, win over Paige Collins. At second singles, Allie Zofkie beat Liz Kidd, 6-1, 6-1. In third singles, Rachel Roberts handled Meredith Bruno, 6-1, 6-1.

In the first doubles match, Wapak’s Kiersten Wellons and Chelsea Myers won the first set, 6-2, but dropped the next two, 6-2, 6-4, to LCC’s Kacey Bradshaw and Allison Hollinger.

For their first loss in five tries, Wapak’s Carly Buzzard and Amanda Sims also won the first set, 6-1, but lost two straight, 6-4, 6-0, to LCC’s Natalie Patricio and Emily Janowski.

Wapak will next play Thursday in a road match in Western Buckeye League action against the St. Marys Roughriders.

Wapak is 7-0 in the WBL with two matches remaining.

With a win Thursday, the Redskins would clinch at least a share of the WBL regular season title.
