Wapakoneta freshman Zokfie qualifies to regionals

Allie Zofkie will be the lone representative of Wapakoneta High School at the regional cross country level, as the freshman qualified from districts Saturday.

The Wapakoneta Redskins finished ninth overall out of 11 teams in a Division I Northwest District girls cross country meet at Pearson Metro Park in Oregon.

The top four teams advanced from districts Saturdays, and the top 16 individuals not on qualifying teams also advanced.

Zofkie placed sixth overall with a time of 19 minutes, 48.3 seconds Saturday on a course holding 79 runners.

She will make her next run this coming Saturday in the Division I, Region 2, championship meet at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin, needing another top-16 finish to qualify for the state championships.

Also for the Redskins on Saturday, Sydney Sutton (44th; 22:28.0) had a top-50 finish, while Nicole King (57th; 23:28.0), Morgan Miller (63rd; 24:03.0), Megan Watt (70th; 25:08.3) and Courtney Musgrove (73rd; 25:57.0) also ran for Wapak.

Oregon Clay was the team champion Saturday.

The Wapakoneta Redskins ended their season Saturday with a ninth-place effort in a Division I Northwest District boys cross country meet at Pearson Metro Park in Oregon.

The Redskins needed a top-four finish as a team to advance.

None of Wapak’s seven runners qualified an individual, with a requisite top-16 finish to make regionals in the 82-runner field.

Sam Harrod (28th; 17:38.1) and Will Zofkie (30th; 17:39.1) finished near each other with sub-18-minute times Saturday for Wapak.

The Redskins’ Dylan Plaugher (48th; 18:28.3) landed inside the top-50.

Dan Reichenbach (60th; 18:41.0) and Jordan Bowers (64th; 18:56.7) each had under-19-minute times.
Hayden Brandehoff (65th; 19:05.8) was the next runner behind Bowers.

Alec Benny (70th; 19:48.9) had the second to last sub-20-minute mark.
