Seven Wapakoneta City Schools employees were recognized upon their retirements this week.

The retirees include Treasurer Susan Rinehart, high school English teacher Diane Elshire, third-grade teacher Cathy Beard, second-grade teacher Darlene Adams, high school social studies teacher Bill Dellinger, sixth-grade teacher Michelle Boyer, and high school Spanish teacher Dale Meyer.

Rinehart, who has been employed with the district for 21 years, is responsible in large part for how well the district has fared financially, Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner said.

He said she saw the district through good and bad times and often saw things coming before they were there.

“I’m going to miss you,” Horner told Rinehart, with whom he worked closely. He remarked even when they didn’t see eye-to-eye Rinehart never held a grudge.

He said with a business perspective, Rinehart asked daily, “What is best for our kids?”
