Nick Bruns’ score gave the Wapakoneta Redskins a second-place finish Saturday, as his 18-hole round of 88 was used in a tiebreaker against Kalida’s Even Recker, who shot an 89.

Bruns’ round was used as Wapak’s fifth score tiebreaker against Kalida, as the two teams each shot 327 on Saturday in the 20-team Springbrook Golf Club Tournament hosted by Allen East in Lima.

Wapak’s team score of 327 was a season low for the Redskins.

Leading the Redskins with a 77 was Bobby Crow, who tied for the third-best score of the tournament and finished fifth overall.

Also for Wapak, Drew Wayman had a 79, which tied him for fourth-best score and placed him seventh overall.

The Redskins’ other two scores counted were Alex Gossard’s 84 and Lucas Lightle’s 87. Dan Bogan carded a 97 for Wapak.

“Even though we came in second, I felt we putted way too much,” Wapak varsity coach Kenny Wayman said Saturday. “We three-putted too many greens today. There is always room to improve our short game. However, we our thrilled for a second-place finish with a score of 327.”

The Redskins will resume their schedule today with a Western Buckeye League match against Bath at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course in Lima.

The Botkins Trojans finished ninth in Saturday’s tournament with a score of 348, tying them with Ottawa-Glandorf.

Nick Okuley led Botkins with an 83, followed by Seth Hanna’s 84. Josh Miller carded a 90, and Alex Roberts posted a 91. Roger Miller shot a 107 for the Trojans.

Botkins will continue its schedule at 4:30 p.m. today with a match against Riverside at Cherokee Hills Golf Course in Bellefontaine.

Clyde won the tournament with a 320.

Anna’s Zach Watren and Patrick Henry’s Aaron Tietje each shot 74 to lead the field.
