Wapak girl, Botkins teen crowned
A Wapakoneta girl and a Botkins teen were crowned winners during the Miss West Central Ohio Outstanding Teen and Little Miss Scholarship Program last weekend.
Ali Wayman, 11, of Wapakoneta, was named Little Miss West Central Ohio, and Shelby Boyd, 16, of Botkins, was named Miss West Central Ohio’s Outstanding Teen. Matti Lynn Chrisman, 16, of Nashport, was named Miss Crystal Lake’s Outstanding Teen.
Boyd’s platform was preventing childhood obesity while Chrisman’s was “don’t text and drive.”
Each teen queen won $100 scholarship and a sash and crown, as well as a paid trip to compete in Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teen competition in June in Mansfield.
Jocelyn Campbell, 15, of Wapakoneta, was named first runner-up.
Shelby Boyd received five of the six special awards given out during the event, including People’s Choice, Evening Gown, Fitness, Interview and Talent. She received a designer rug and comforter and TV for capturing those honors.
Allison Luedeke, 13, of New Bremen, won the Spirit Award.
As the Little Miss Winner, Wayman received a crown and sash. She also was the talent winner for a dance she performed. For that, Wayman won a $200 Sears game table.
First runner-up for the Little Miss competition was Breah Anderson, 12, of Celina, and second runner-up was Natalee Rose Patrick, 12, of Delphos.
Other special awards for the little misses included, Brooke Rice, 10, of Fort Jennings, who gave the best answer to an on-stage question and received a party dress, and also received the People’s Choice award and a Mary Kay gift basket. Lissie Massingill, 11, of DeGraff, was awarded the Spirit Award and received a book and $20.
Ten teenagers and 11 girls competed in the program Sunday night at Wapakoneta Middle School.
Miss Ohio’s Outstanding Teen Kelsey Barrett, of Wapakoneta, emceed the event, as she gave away her local title and crowned the new Miss Crystal Lake Outstanding Teen.
Hannah Tumbusch, the former Miss West Central Ohio Outstanding Teen, Miss West Central Ohio 2011 Elissa McCracken and Miss Crystal Lake 2011 Devon Stansbury assisted with emceeing the event.
All proceeds from the show benefited the scholarship program and covered the cost of prizes and award money.
The Miss West Central Ohio Scholarship Program is a preliminary for the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program. Both are part of the Miss America Scholarship Program.
