- Eyes On
One 2011 Wapakoneta High School graduate did not grow up on a farm like many FFA students students do, but he did gain much from the program and proclaimed farming is a life style he loves.
While many inherit family farms or go adopt agrarian lifestyles based on their experiences on a farm, Dylan Regula said he is not sure exactly where along the line he decided it was the life for him.
“I did have an uncle that farmed,” Regula said. “I remember riding on the tractor with my uncle, Don Regula. Other than that, I don’t really know how I got into it. I just knew it would be a good idea.”
The son of Paul Regula, of Wapakoneta, and Paula Theodore, of Lima, is the brother to two older sisters, Randi Braddock and Nikki Wheeler.
When or wherever the idea came along, Dylan Regula now knows that farming is the life for him. He mows part-time for the county, but also works at three area farms, including his uncles. The other two farms he works at are Maple Valley Farms and J & S Farms.
He admits to thoroughly enjoying what the industry brings.
“I just enjoy being on your own and being out in the country,” Regula said. “You are your own boss. There is something about owning the farm and all of the land that attracts me.
Regula, who was a member of FFA for four years, earned the Outstanding Employee Award and the Best Shop Project Award. At last year’s Auglaize County Fair, he also was crowned Grand Champion in the open class.
Now that he has graduated, Regula plans to attend the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) in Lima and to pursue a degree in ag-diesel and ag-business this fall. While he is sure that his career will involve something in the agricultural industry, he has not narrowed down what that will be yet.
“It is really kind of open right now,” Regula said. “I may go out West and do the custom harvest. I have thought about working at an agricultural business. I’ve worked on dairy and hog farms, but I really enjoyed the crop farming most. I’m undecided right now at what I will do.”
Regula plans to keep all of his jobs while attending classes.
