Wapakoneta Area Economic Development Council (WAEDC) Director Greg Myers told board members this week that the organization hopes to become aggressive in attracting more business to the area as the economy continues to slowly recover.
Myers told the board he recently submitted a budget request with Auglaize County Commissioners for a considerable increase in funding to address economic development in the county.
Commissioners are considering the request as they outline their budget, Myers said.
“We were patient when times were tough,” Myers said. “We didn’t push them because we understood what was going on.”
Myers said the financial outlook in the county is beginning to look better, and now is the time for reinvesting in economic development in the area.
“We are not asking them to replace our funding,” Myers said. “We are asking them to supplement it.”
Myers and representatives from several other municipalities requested the commissioners to dedicate $75,000 to economic development in the county.
Included in the budget was money set aside for membership to the Center for Automotive Research to help attract industry to the area. County representatives are considering a trip to a Ford plant in Dearborn, Mich., in August.
