W-G notches 1st ever girls golf win

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity girls golf team notched its first win in school history Friday, tallying a 265-270 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians in a dual match played at the Mercer County Elks Country Club in Celina.

W-G started its first full girls golf season in school history this school year beginning Friday.

The Tigers were led by Kennedy Rumer and Chelsea Spencer, who each tallied a 57. Also for W-G, Elva Anne Shephard had a 71, while Hannah Williams scored an 80.

“We did well,” W-G varsity coach Gary Spencer said Friday. “They were nervous to start. It took us to hole No. 2 before we started to refocus.

“We got excited when it got close at the end. I’m very proud of them.”

The win gave the Tigers a 1-0 record to start the 2013 season.

Tori Vaughn was the low scorer for Fort Recovery with a 62.

For its next match, W-G will host Wapakoneta at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Prairie View Golf Course in Waynesfield.
