Viola A. Hemmert, 92, of the Botkins area passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday morning, Jan., 22, 2014. She was born Jan. 26, 1921, near Botkins in Shelby County, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Craft) Wesbecher, both deceased. On Feb. 16, 1944, she married Louis Hemmert in Immaculate Conception Church in Botkins. Louis died Sept. 29, 2008.
Survivors include, five children; Dave & Diane (Enneking) Hemmert, of Botkins; Al & Cathy (Ball) Hemmert, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Steve & Eileen (Wuebker) Hemmert, of Botkins; Leon & Rita (Bruns) Hemmert, of Botkins; Mark & Beth Hemmert, of Botkins; a son-in-law, Rick Kohnen, of Centerville; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Kohnen, a brother, Harry Wesbecher, and a sister Lucille Sommer.
Mrs. Hemmert was a 1939 graduate of Botkins High School. She was a homemaker and assisted Louis on the family farm. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Botkins, the ICC Ladies Sodality, and the Auxiliary Knights of St. John. She served on the Pusheta Township election board, was a member of Auglaize County Extension, and belonged to the Friendly Homemakers Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, with Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m., Friday at the Long & Folk Chapel, 13 South Blackhoof Street, Wapakoneta, and from 9-9:45 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
