In an effort to provide the best services to city residents, a Wapakoneta City Council member is seeking more time to collect information before his committee reaches a final decision on a contract with the Humane Society of Auglaize County.
Councilor-at-large Thomas Finkelmeier Jr. intends to conduct more research and collect more data before the committee he chairs, the Health and Safety Committee, issues a recommendation.
During Tuesday’s committee meeting, Finkelmeier announced he spoke to the parties involved including Auglaize County Dog Warden Russ Bailey, Humane Society of Auglaize County Board President Sandra Harrison and Wapakoneta Police Chief Russ Hunlock.

Airport may get fed funds
Thursday, 12 February 2009
By MIKE BURKHOLDER
Staff Writer
NEW KNOXVILLE — The Neil Armstrong Airport could be in line to receive federal funds as part of the economic stimulus package, an official says.
Airport manager Sean Stroh Tuesday told Auglaize County Airport Authority members the facility could receive funds from the stimulus plans. Stroh said two airport projects were placed on the candidate list compiled by the Federal Aviation Administration for the possibility of receiving stimulus money.
“We had a well-received meeting and we have two projects that could be put on the candidate list if there is stimulus money,” Stroh said. “The site work and the snow removal would be placed on that list. The terminal building is not available for stimulus funds.”
Stroh said there are several options available to fund the construction of the terminal building. Stroh also told members the FAA holds the other two projects in higher regard over the terminal building.
“The snow removal building is a higher priority,” Stroh said. “We can bank our $150,000 until we get to the point to where we can pay for it. There also is still a chance they could up-front the money. Of course with the economic turmoil, who knows.”
Despite the economic downturn, Stroh said projects at the airport should net favorable bids.
“We are going to get our best bang for our dollar,” Stroh said. “We are at a good spot if we can get this accomplished.”
The next meeting of the Auglaize County Airport Authority is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 10 in the terminal building at the airport.
