Routine starts new year for city council

Routine first-of-the-year business dominates the Wapakoneta City Council’s agenda at its first scheduled meeting of 2009.
Wapakoneta City Council is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. today in council chambers in the Wapakoneta City Administration Building, 701 Parlette Court.
Councilors are scheduled tonight to hear an ordinance authorizing the safety-service director to advertise for bids and enter into contracts for certain materials, services and equipment required for the operation of the various city departments.
The legislation permits Safety-Service Director Rex Katterheinrich to purchase bid items for one year including such as items as electrical wire, transformers, asphalt, water treatment salt, road salt, refuse bags and fuel.
This is typically the first piece of legislation passed each year.
Councilors also are scheduled to hear the first reading of an ordinance pertaining to an agreement with the Duchouquet Township Trustees to furnish the township with fire protection and ambulance service.
The proposed contract would start April 1 and expire March 31, 2010.
Katterheinrich and the trustees inked a deal on March 6 for services for the township. The existing contract expires March 31.
The service fee to be charged to the trustees is to be negotiated between Katterheinrich and the trustees based on the taxes collected by the trustees for providing the services, according to the proposed legislation.
Councilors are to hear the first reading of a resolution to construct and re.
• At 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, a 2005 Buick Terraza driven by Patrick Timmerman, 51, 256 S. Paris St., Minster, sustained functional damage after striking and killing a deer on Ohio 66.
Timmerman and his passenger, Diane Timmerman, 50, of the same address, were traveling north on Ohio 66 when a deer ran across the road in front of their vehicle.
No significant injuries were reported and Timmerman’s vehicle sustained the most damage to its front center.
• At 6:15 p.m. Thursday, a 2003 Chevy Town and Country driven by Barbara Wilker, 55, 02767 Southland Road, New Bremen, sustained disabling damage to its front center after striking a deer on Ohio 219.
Wilker was traveling west on Ohio 219 when her vehicle struck a deer that entered the roadway from the south.
No significant injuries were reported.
