St. Henry run-rules Wapak
Thursday, 28 June 2007

Staff Writer
ST. HENRY — St. Henry High School sophomore Brad Kremer may be the smallest player on the St. Henry ACME baseball team, but size and inexperience did not stop Kremer from hitting a walk-off home run.
Kremer’s blast in the home half of the fifth inning gave the Redskins a 13-2 run-rule victory over the Wapakoneta VFW ACME Redskins Wednesday.
“The game came down to hitting the ball,” Wapakoneta coach Craig Sammetinger said. “They read our pitchers well. St. Henry crushed the ball.”
St. Henry rapped out 12 hits in the game including two home runs and four other extra base hits.
Wapakoneta designated hitter Mike Bogan rapped a single to drive in Corey Lotridge with the first run of the game. Lotridge opened the inning with a single and moved to second base when Drew Golden was hit by a pitch.
St. Henry tied the game when Kremer, who reached base via a walk, raced homed on an RBI single by Darren Siefring.
Kremer would score again in the third inning, when St. Henry batted around, chased Wapakoneta starting pitcher Zach Brown from the mound. Mitch Beemer came on in relief, giving up six runs.
With a 2-1 after two innings of play, the St. Henry Redskins took a commanding 10-1 lead.
“Wapakoneta took the lead early but we came back and reclaimed the lead,” St. Henry coach Joe Worums said.
St. Henry tagged Brown for a pair of doubles to open the home third. And got five more hits off Beemer, who was called in relief.
“They put on a good display of hitting,” Sammetinger said. “Brown and Beemer both did what we asked them to do. They threw strikes.”
The two pitchers struck out a total of six batters, but gave up four walks.
“We had a couple of errors, but they really didn’t hurt us,” Sammetinger said.
Beemer seemed to settle down, facing only four batters in the fourth inning and giving up one walk.
He struck out the last two batters he faced in the inning.
Wapakoneta was able to get runners on base in all but the fifth inning. The Redskins picked up their second run of the game, taking advantage of a St. Henry error.
Chad Downing reached on a fielding error by the St. Henry second baseman. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Brown doubled.
Wapakoneta drops to 9-11 and will return home this evening for a rematch with Crestview. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Because of work on the field, the game will be played at the Wapakoneta Middle School diamond.
