Harrison case heard
By MATT NICHOLS
Staff Writer
A former Wapakoneta law enforcement officer’s future is now in the hands of seven state Supreme Court justices.
Former Wapakoneta Police Chief Dave Harrison’s 6-year-old sex crime case reached the pinnacle in Ohio’s court system Wednesday, as justices heard arguments from Harrison’s attorney Dean Boland and state prosecutor Scott Longo.
Each party had 15 minutes to present their case to the justices. After both attorneys argued their cases, a single word in Harrison’s sentencing entry and a grilling delivered to Longo by justice Maureen O’Connor left Boland optimistic about his client’s future.
In June, 2003, Harrison plead guilty to a six-count bill of information after child pornography was found on his computer. After entering his plea, the man who served as police chief from 1988 to 2002 was sentenced to one year in jail.
Seven months after he completed his sentence, it was discovered by county prosecutors that Harrison should have been sentenced with an additional five years of mandatory post release control, or probation.
During a court hearing, Harrison was given the option to either be re-sentenced or withdraw his plea. Harrison chose the latter, taking things back to square one.
With the plea withdrawn, the state of Ohio slapped Harrison with a 23-count indictment which he was ultimately found guilty of and sentenced to six years in prison.

Wapakoneta girls, Botkins boys come up short
By COURTNEY MILLER
Sports Editor
The Waynesfield-Goshen Tiger golfers handily defeated Ridgemont Monday at the Kenton Memorial Tournament. W-G had 174 to the Golden Gophers’ 228.
Five Tiger sophomores led the way.  Medalist Dalton Buffenbarger, who shot a 40, started W-G off strong. Helping the cause was Brad Smith and Zach Gilroy, each with  44. Chipping in a 47 was Sheldon Shobe to round out the scoring, while Corey Maxwell shot a 48.
Leading Ridgemont was Mason Cadwell, who shot a 48.
The Tigers now stand at 17-8 overall and 2-1 in the Northwest Central Conference.  Their next league match is against rival Fairbanks Sept. 2.
The Wapakoneta ladies fell short Monday in a tri-match with Greenville and Coldwater at the Greenville Country Club, placing third.
Greenville took the team honors firing a 186 along with the medalist award coming from Jalyn McCalley, who fired a 42. Runner-up medalist honors also came from Greenville for Alyssa Aeteler with a 46.
Coldwater finished second with 232 and falling just one stroke behind were the Redskins with 233.
Kristina Kessen was tops for the ’Skins with 51, followed by Janelle Allen with 59, Kelsey Anthony with 60 and Katy Keckler with 63. Playing, but not scoring for Wapak was Audrey Fisher and Morgan Adkins.
Redskin girls head coach Dawn West said her charges had quite a few mis-shots Monday evening, which caused some big numbers.
“Some of that comes from not getting in much range time, since we have been at so many matches these past two weeks,” West explained. “We have a good opportunity this week to get on the range at least three times and really work on our fundamentals of our swings again.”
West said she and the golfers are excited to play at Wapakoneta Country Club Wednesday, as they get to play host for the first time this season, against Lima Central Catholic. Action on the links begins at 4 p.m.
Despite good efforts from the Trojan boys golf team, the Sidney Yellow Jackets defeated Botkins Monday 162-185.
Eric Ambos led BHS with 42. He was backed by Adam Bornhorst’s 46, Tyler Shaffer with 48 and Trey Bauer and Cody Meyer, who both had 49s.
The Trojans play at Fort Loramie today at 4 p.m.
