Horn lone Tiger to move on |

By WILLIAM LANEY Managing Editor Senior Gray Horn powered the Waynesfield-Goshen High School boys last weekend during District III track event held at Minster High School. The Waynesfield-Goshen Tiger boys track team amassed 42 points to earn a seventh-place finish, while the girls track team recorded 3.5 points to finish 15th. The St. Henry Redskins paced the field for the boys with 123.50 points, with the Minster Wildcat girls amassing 99 points to take first in the district tournament. Horn captured first place in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet-2, followed by Rob Miller of St. Henry High School and Scott Schnelle of New Bremen High School.
Horn grabbed the first of two second place finishes with a pole vault of 12-feet-6, bested only by Indian Matt Vagedes of Fort Recovery with a vault of 13-feet. In the long jump, Horn recorded a third-place finish with a bound of 20-feet-7 1/2, with St. Henry Redskin Patrick Reichart taking first with a jump of 21-feet-1/2, and Parkway Panther Jacob Fox recording a jump of 20-feet-10 1/2. Horn finished second to Fox in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.68. Fox proved a step faster at 14.54. Tiger Riley Huger finished sixth in the same event with a time of 17.25. Tiger Jake Spencer crossed the finish line as the clock read 11.60 as he took fifth place in the 100-meter dash. Cameron Hermiller of Delphos St. Johns captured first place, pacing the field with a time of 11.10. In a long distance event, Waynesfield-Goshen runner Todd Andrews finished eighth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:01.47. Doug Ranly of St. Henry High School crossed the finish line in 4:41.92. In the discus, Tiger Tyler Johns recorded a throw of 128-feet-2, to finish seventh. Minster Wildcat Andrew Meyer set the mark to be bested with a throw of 160-feet-5, more than 14 feet further than the second place competitor — Austin Luck of New Knoxville High School. Tiger Kelsey Williams earned an eighth-place finish in the pole vault for the Waynesfield-Goshen squad. She cleared the bar at 8-feet-6. Other Auglaize County schools competing in the district tournament included New Bremen Cardinals girls, who finished second with 95.5 points and New Knoxville Rangers, who finished 14th with 7 points. The Minster Wildcat boys track team finished second with 95.5 points followed by New Bremen with 80.5 points. New Knoxville finished 10th with 30 points. |
