Apparent domestic dispute under investigation By KAREN CAMPBELL Staff Writer A Lakeview man was transported to an area hospital Tuesday afternoon after he was hit by a car driven by the mother of his child. Cary Alltop Jr., 29, Lakeview, told deputies from the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office that he was walking near the 27000 block of Barnes Road at approximately 4:45 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Lisa Swartz, 27, of Russells Point, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tom Keckler told the Wapakoneta Daily News. Alltop reported the impact caused him to go “flying through the air,” Keckler said.
He was transported from the scene by Indian Lake Rescue Squad to Lima Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. Swartz told a different story to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. “It sounds like from her that a domestic incident occurred inside the vehicle, which caused the car to go into a ditch,” Logan County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Andrew J. Smith said. “When she was trying to get the car out of the ditch, she hit him. When she went to check and see how he was, he hit her in the nose.” A female friend of the motorist who was in the car collaborated her story.Swartz, who had no visible signs of trauma or bleeding, later went to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine for treatment of the injuries she said she received after hitting Alltop with her car. She was treated and released. There was confusion about whose jurisdiction the domestic assault occurred in because it was on the county line and involved a moving vehicle, so deputies from both departments responded. Once it was determined that it was in Logan County’s area they took over and are handling the investigation, which is still underway. “That added to the confusion of what went on here,” Smith said. “Right now we’ve only talked to her. Once we are able to talk to the victim, too, we should be able to figure it out more. The problem is we are going to have conflicting statements from the people involved. I expect him to tell a completely different story.” The car received some damage, dents in the back end, but Smith said they are still determining exactly how the damage to that part of the vehicle was caused. “We’ve had dealings with them before, probably for the past year or so,” Keckler said of the pair. “Both have had protection orders against each other and both have violated them. It has gone back and forth.” |
