By JOSHUA KEERAN Sports Editor MINSTER — The 2008 season came to an end for the Waynesfield-Goshen varsity baseball team on Saturday in first-round action of the Division IV Minster sectional.
The Tigers were unable to figure out Fort Recovery starter Greg Kahlig as the Indians rolled to an 8-0 victory. In seven innings of shutout baseball, Kahlig allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 15 batters. “Overall, Waynesfield played a pretty good baseball game, but we ran into a great pitcher,” Waynesfield-Goshen varsity coach J.R. Biederman said. “We haven’t faced anyone like that since early in the season.” Junior Nick Shaner took the loss for the Tigers. Shaner allowed eight hits and three runs in six innings of work. Shaner fanned seven batters in the game. For Fort Recovery, Curt Heitkamp led the way as he went 3-for-3. “We just didn’t have enough to hit the pitcher they had on the mound,” Biederman said. |
