HENRY — In a round-robin tournament on Saturday at the Wally Post Athletic Complex, the Botkins varsity baseball team lost to the host Redskins, but downed Shelby County Athletic League foe Anna in the second game. In game one, the Trojans fell to St. Henry by a score of 9-2. Trailing 1-0 after two innings, Botkins tied up the contest in the top of the third inning. St. Henry, however, scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage. After Botkins plated a run in the top of the sixth, the Redskins put the game on ice with three runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the seventh.
For the Trojans, Cody Meyer took the loss in six innings of work. He allowed 12 hits, four earned runs, two walks and fanned three batter. Also for Botkins, Caleb Koch had a RBI and a run scored while Tyler Shaffer and Evan Maurer each had RBIs. The Trojans rebounded in the second game by defeating Anna, 6-3. Earning the win for Botkins was senior Tyler Dietz, who worked three innings after entering for starter Ryan Leugers in the third inning. Picking up the save was Koch, who in two innings of work allowed no hits. For Botkins (3-3, 2-2), Dietz had two singles and two RBIs, Jared Boyd added two RBIs, Maurer had one RBI and two runs scored while Leugers chipped in two hits. |
