The Redskins (7-7, 1-4 WBL) are led by 6-foot-7 senior center B.J. Reed with 13.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Reed is also shooting 57.3 percent from the field. He will most likely face off against Kenton’s 6-foot-9 sophomore post Garrick Sherman. The Wildcats (9-4, 3-2) are one of the surprise teams in the league this year and the game should be a challenge for the Redskins.
Wapakoneta has faced height this season, but Sherman will be the tallest player the team has faced yet to date. Reed had a solid game against him last season when he was a freshman, but the Redskin left the game early with a rolled ankle. The Redskins will have to look for other players to cheat down on the post and rebound in the paint. They will also need to get more offense from other players beside Reed. Also helping on offense for Wapakoneta are senior guard Randy Schmerge with 10.8 ppg. 7.2 rpg. and 3.8 assists per game. Others that can score include Kyle Maus, Drew Parker, Justin Shark, Zach Brown and Derran Erb. Wapakoneta will face the Liberty-Benton Eagles Saturday in a home affair. The Eagles are led by 6-foot-3 senior Nathan Hyde, who recently became the school’s leading scorer with1,445 points. The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers (3-12, 3-6 NWCC) will be at the Riverside Pirates (3-12, 1-7) Friday. The leading scorer for the Tigers is junior guard Adam Foley with 10.3 ppg. The Botkins Trojans will travel to Fairlawn to play the Jets in a Shelby County League game Friday. The Trojans are led by guard Travis Dietz with 10 ppg. and senior forward Xavier Counts with 7.4 ppg. Editor’s Note: Wapakoneta coach Scott Minnig could not be reached for comment. |
