By KRISTA HAYES Staff Writer WAYNESFIELD — Those Waynesfield-Goshen junior high and high school students wishing to participate in athletics next school year will now have to pay more out of their pocket. In order to off-set the cost of transportation, Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education members voted Monday to approve setting the school’s athletic participation fee at $25 for the 2010-11 school year. “In the past, the fee has always remained $10 for as long as I can remember, even before former superintendent Earnie Jones’ time,” Waynesfield-Goshen Superintendent Joanne Kerekes said. “The fee was raised to help pay for the cost of transportation of those students participating in athletics, and the $25 participation fee will be applied to each individual sport a single student chooses to participate in.”
Board members also approved to accept a donation of $600 through the Waynesfield-Goshen Area Community Foundation from Block Insurance for the Wayne-Goshen Community Trail. As one of many donations through the foundation, the money is to be used to pay for a bench in support of the project. “Individuals, businesses and families now have the opportunity to make donations for this project,” Kerekes said. “Opportunities include purchasing trees, benches or engraved pavers to support the project or to ‘honor’ or ‘memorialize’ community or family members. All donations are to be made and received through the Wayne-Goshen Area Community Foundation.” After thanking Block Insurance for joining the vision and dreams to help make Waynesfield-Goshen School and the surrounding community a better place to live, board members took time to recognize the seventh-grade girls and eighth-grade girls and boys basketball teams for their successful seasons and bringing home NWCC championships. “Obviously, we’re extremely proud of those students on the basketball teams who really pulled together as a team and played excellent basketball all season,” Kerekes said. “Wining the championship is quite an accomplishment for not only those students, but the school and its athletic program as well.” In other action, board members approved: • The stay of foreign exchange student Felix Berief, of Germany, for the 2010-11 school year. His host family will be Jill and Bradley Case. • Entering into a contract with Motteriffic Creations to complete Waynesfield-Goshen School’s sports programs and schedules for the 2010-2011 school year. • The Waynesfield-Goshen Rental Agreement with Todd Spencer to use the multi-purpose room on Mondays and Thursdays from March 1-18 (excluding March 11) for boys youth basketball practices. Kelly Searson is the staff person responsible. • The Waynesfield-Goshen Rental Agreement with the Waynesfield Baseball Association to use the multi-purpose bus garage May 5 for its flower sale and fundraiser. Contact person is Carolyn Bly. • The Waynesfield-Goshen Rental Agreement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to use the auditoria on April 12 for a community event. Craig Ludwig and Paul Green are staff persons responsible.
