LIMA - Waynesfield-Goshen coach Romie Youngpeter contributed an 11-point loss to the Perry Commodores Friday night to the Tigers missing several shots in the paint.
“I think if we could have put the ball in the hole, we could have been right there,” Youngpeter said.
The Tigers varsity boys basketball team dropped a Northwest Central Conference game, 67-56, to fall to 4-11 overall and 3-3 in the loop.
Leading Waynesfield-Goshen on the night were shooting guard Connor Mortimer with 14 points, point guard Jerry Weeks with 13 points, and small forward Cory Hickman with 11 points.
Others for the Tigers were center Taylor Miller with 18 rebounds and five points, guard Jacob Frank with nine points off the bench, and power forward Matt Spangler with four points.
Perry (8-6, 4-1) were led by point guard Seaton Thompson with 19 points, power forward Shawn Deal with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench, and center Alex Howell with 10 points.
Waynesfield-Goshen fell behind early and trailed, 16-7, after one period of play. The Tigers made a comeback attempt in the second period, outscoring Perry 15-12, to trail 28-22 at the break. The third period went to the home team 14-12 for a 52-34 lead, and the final period was won by W-G 22-15 for the double-digit difference.
The Tigers shot 19-of-58 from the floor in the contest, including 9-of-26 from downtown, and were 9-of-16 at the stripe. Perry went 26-of-52 from the field, including 4-of-8 from behind 3-point land, and were 11-of-16 at the foul line.
The rebounding advantage went to Perry, 35-28, and the Tigers won the turnover ratio, 11-9.
In the junior varsity contest, Waynesfield-Goshen won a 60-56 game to improve to 5-10 on the season. Dylan Little had 22 points for the Tigers JV.
