Friday Tip-off: Ottawa-Glandorf is up next for Redskins
Friday, 22 January 2010
Staff Reports
Tied for eighth place in the Western Buckeye League standings with an 0-3 record, the Wapakoneta Redskins boys varsity basketball team is looking for a win.
The Ottawa-Glandorf Titans, who feature a 2-1 league record, are tied for third in the WBL with Celina, Van Wert and Bath and are hoping to gain some separation.
Tonight, both teams will meet inside the Wapakoneta High School gym, with the two junior varsity teams kicking things off at 6 p.m.
The Redskins, in need of their first league win of the season and first in well over a year, would settle for a ‘W’ period at this particular juncture. Losers of their last seven games in a row, they were beaten 60-40 at home in their most recent game by current league leader Defiance.
The Redskins played hard in that game, but were ultimately done in by Defiance’s wealth of skilled big men. The entire Bulldogs starting lineup featured players six feet tall or over.
The Titans will come into Wapak also searching for a win, following a loss at home last week to Findlay.
Despite featuring a pair of double-digit scorers in Travis Schomaeker (16 points) and Jordan Alt (10), and a relentless, trapping defense that has gotten them off to a 6-3 record, O-G had trouble stopping Findlay, which won the game, 61-59.
