By WILLIAM LANEY Managing Editor Wapakoneta Area Economic Development Council (WAEDC) members intend to tweak their marketing campaign this year to build on past efforts to promote the organization and the city’s Job Ready Site manufacturing location. WAEDC Executive Director Greg Myers said they plan to shift their attention in an effort to better market industrial and commercial sites within Wapakoneta. “The Site Sales Committee discussed rather than doing trade shows that we concentrate on site consultant conferences which are held throughout the United States,” Myers said. “These meetings actually have site consultants there so we could network with them. “I suggested this since our mail campaign has done a great job of introducing our sites to them so it would be nice to interact with them and spread the word about Wapakoneta,” he said.
One regional site consultant conference is being held in Columbus. This strategy would coincide with work being done by the Marketing Development Team, whose members are planning on developing a social media presence and a maintenance strategy as well as an e-mail marketing campaign. “In marketing, most of our efforts are going to be in Web site enhancements because we still feel this is the most important tool we have and we need to upgrade that site,” Myers said. WAEDC board members also discussed increasing the number of seats on the board to include a bank, university and hospital representatives. The seats would have one-year terms and would be rotated among the existing entities in the area. Myers also said Membership Expansion Committee members plan to meet with Mayor Rodney Metz, Safety-Service Director Bill Rains and Electric Superintendent Bill Lambert so they can meet with existing and potential WAEDC members about electric rates. “We think this is important since companies have been forced to find ways to deal with energy issues and electric costs and we feel this is important so we want to sit down and talk with them about that issue,” Myers said. “We really want to sit down and discuss ways we can help them reduce their energy demand or help them become more efficient in the energy they use to improve their operations.” Myers reviewed efforts being made by the other committees including Tax Incentive Committee members continuing their efforts regarding a Community Reinvestment Area and initiate plans for broker selection. Business Retention Committee members are to develop a schedule for local retention and expansion visits and plans for industrial group meetings, and Executive Committee members are to continue to monitor WAEDC’s financial status and review strategic goals.
