For 45 minutes, the roar of motorcycles could be heard passing under an American flag hanging from two ladder trucks. For 45 minutes, area residents gathered in the shadow of the Auglaize County Courthouse and Wapakoneta Fire Station waved and clapped as motorcyclists rode by.
The smiles and waves turned into clapping and cheers as the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall passed down Willipie Street on its way to Custenborder Field in Sidney where it was greeted by a field of American flags.

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville Board of Education members heard a variety of updates  including honoring the scholastic bowl team.
Treasurer Marcia Wierwille updated the board on the five-year forecast reporting decreasing funds.
“It’s all based on whether you are a rural school, inner-city or city,” Wierwille said.
She mentioned the possibility of further cuts within the district if something is not done to deal with the deficit the school is experiencing.
Elementary principal Julie Willoughby updated the board on elementary activities, including the annual fundraiser.
“We sold candles this year,” Willoughby said.
She reported the fundraiser netted the school $8,037, with one small expense still to pay.
Willoughby also reported the school recently held a book fair and was able to purchase a smart board for teacher Pam Bergman’s room.
Willoughby said the book fair allows the school to log money taken in from the event to purchase items.
“I think it’s a nice way to add those types of things to the school,” Willoughby said.
High School principal Linda Tebbe reported on all the activities in the fall at the high school, praising students for all the hard work put into the season.
Among the recognitions were the National Honor Society for collecting 2,052 items that were donated to Agape.
“The seniors won the high school competition and sixth grade won the elementary competition,” Tebbe said. “We appreciate the National Honor Society for organizing this and thank all the students who were able to donate.”
Superintendent Kim Waterman reported a new van was purchased and the baseball field repairs have been finished.
She also mentioned the 11-month walk through went well.
“We already had a list of items we noticed need to be addressed,” Waterman said.
Waterman added a few things were added to the list to be looked at and further items will be reviewed in the spring.
In other business, board members:
• Approved a motion to authorize to advertise for bids for a new school bus.
• Approved a motion to change the December board meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 21.
