WAYNESFIELD - The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity football team made easy work of the Ridgemont Golden Gophers Friday night on Senior Night, pulling out the shut-out victory.
“We did some things to get the time off the clock, just get this game over with,” Waynesfield-Goshen coach Gary Spencer said of the 40-0 win, as they look ahead to next week. “It was a good game... We wanted to last a long time and get time off the clock on each drive, and we did that.”
The Tigers (8-1) picked up the shutout, and will be set for a Northwest Central Conference title game next week at Milford Center against the Fairbanks Panthers.

“It’s all about week 10 now for us,” Gary Spencer said. “And we can finally start talking about it. That’s always been hush, hush in our locker room, and now we can start moving forward, and we want that league title.”
Leading the Tigers rushing was Ryan Spencer with 12 carries for 137 yards, a touchdown run and TD reception. Taylor Miller carried the ball eight times for 78 yards and a touchdown, and Keaton Fetter had nine carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns.
Tiger quarterback Connor Mortimer went 4-of-8 passing for 84 yards with one touchdown passing and one rushing.
The Waynesfield-Goshen defense held Ridgemont to 80 yards rushing on 36 carries, and the Golden Gophers went 1-of-6 passing for nine yards.
The Tigers scored on their first six possessions, before pulling the starters midway through the third period. In the game, the Tiger defense forced the Gophers to punt on five of their possessions and two others they turned the ball over on downs. Their other time with the ball the half ended their drive.
Waynesfield-Goshen held the advantage on first downs, 23-6, and they were called for five penalties for 30 yards.
