By KAREN CAMPBELL Assistant Managing Editor Four additional panic switches recently were authorized for offices in the Auglaize County Administrative Building. Auglaize County Commissioners approved nearly $900 to fund the switches, which are to be added to the Tax Map Office and the Emergency Management Homeland Security Office. “Essentially, we had these switches in all rooms of the building except these two,” Commissioner Doug Spencer said. “They were never put in place when the building was built. “We thought the administration building needed to be consistent,” he said.
A different emergency alert system is installed in the Auglaize County Courthouse, Spencer said. Commissioner John Bergman said they felt strongly about having switches installed in all Auglaize County Administration Building rooms in case something were to happen. “It’s just a general safety issue,” Bergman said. “For any reason something could happen to anyone in any given office and staff in any office could witness something happening in another office.” Spencer said the switches, which commissioners declined to provide too much information on, connect straight into county law enforcement agencies. “We feel this is important not only for the protection of our employees, but the protection of the public and whoever might be standing there if something were to happen,” Spencer said. SecurCom is furnishing equipment for the four switches — two in each office — with the county planning to install the wiring.
