CRIDERSVILLE — Students at Cridersville Elementary School building agree on one thing they like about their new school — it’s big.
“It’s nice, it’s clean, and it’s big,” a fourth-grader studying in Deb Eley’s classroom said.
Students seemed to find a common thread to every facet of the new building, even the bathrooms.
“I like the new bathrooms— those things are huge,” Zac Winget said.

Boilers added to WHS upgrades

With one of the boilers at Wapakoneta High School malfunctioning and flooding the school a week ago, district administrators worked to get replacements included in ongoing school construction and renovations.
“Some boilers you can fix, some have to be replaced,” Superintendent Keith Horner said. “This is not one that could be fixed.
“The high school has more than one boiler, so it’s still functioning, but we were worried about maintaining heat with a 20-year-old boiler,” he said. “We wanted to try to take advantage of state money to purchase new boilers.”

During a special meeting of the Wapakoneta City Board of Education on Monday, Horner said they took the first step to bid on all new boilers for the school.
“For whatever reason they were not included in original renovation plans,” Horner said. “When that has happened, the state has been very good about co-funding it. A boiler is something we can’t go without.”
He said the building budget is healthy and they are thankful for the cooperation of the state allowing them to take advantage of that money to assist with needs such as this.
The high school has three boilers, two of which are working, but plans to replace those with two high efficiency boilers and two flex tube boilers, which can be replaced repeatedly as needed.
Estimated costs for the boilers are $220,000, to be included in the package of renovations  to Wapakoneta High School.
