W-G pounds Marion Catholic in road win

Make that six wins in a row for the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity football team.
After five weeks of continued success on the field, the Tigers made it an even six Friday night with a 61-26 thumping of the Marion Catholic Fighting Irish in a road Northwest Central Conference match-up.
The win boosts first place W-G’s record to 7-1 (5-0 NWCC), while Marion Catholic’s record dropped to 1-7 (1-4 NWCC).
The Tigers did the majority of their damage in the first half, as head coach Gary Spencer pulled the starters at halftime.
In the first two quarters, the Tigers scored 41 points, mostly using the running game, which totaled 404 yards.
On the ground, two different players scored in the first half. Ryan Spencer picked up seven carries for 156 yards and a score. Keaton Fetter gained 56 yards on five carries and scored twice.
Under center, W-G quarterback Connor Mortimer connected on five of eight passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns, one to Nate Brassell and another to Christian Lament.
W-G rounded out its first half scoring with a 55-yard interception return for a TD by Brassell.
With the reserves in in the second half, the Tigers were able to put up 20 more points. Running back Nathan Turner carried the ball four times for 87 yards and a TD. Gaige Hennon ran eight times for 39 yards and tacked on two more touchdowns.
Marion Catholic put up -10 rushing yards, but QB Marco Comianos had a big day, going 19-for-48 with 351 yards and four TDs.
Receiver Tyler Granlee caught 10 balls for 255 yards and all four scores.
