(Staff photo/ Craig Pence) YELLOW SPRINGS - The Waynesfield-Goshen varsity football team surprised no one on Friday as the Tigers destroyed the Yellow Springs Bulldogs as expected. The Tigers (5-1, 3-0) scored 27 points in the first half and never looked back, defeating the Bulldogs by a score of 54-6 in Northwest Central Conference play. After scoring just 20 points in last week’s victory over Riverside, W-G came out in the first quarter and nearly matched that total on Friday. The Tigers’ first score of the game came from the scoring machine himself, Blake Knowlton, who scored on a 7-yard run. Later in the first quarter, Jake Spencer found pay dirt on a 23-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers ahead 14-0. Knowlton struck again for W-G in the second quarter when he snuck in from a yard out to increase the Tigers lead to 21-0.
The Bulldogs then found the end zone for their only score of the game when Ron Cobb scooped up a fumble and returned it 64 yards for the score. The PAT was blocked by W-G’s Riley Huffer. Just before halftime, Tiger quarterback Jacob Sandusky hooked up with Huffer on a 26-yard touchdown strike that put W-G ahead 27-6 at the break. Sandusky started the third quarter just as he ended the second quarter with a touchdown pass. This time around, Sandusky found Gray Horn for an 18-yard score. Leading 33-6, Ryan Spencer found pay dirt for the first time in the game as he scored from three yards out to increase the W-G advantage to 40-6. Later in the third quarter, Jake Spencer found the end zone again as he scampered 48 yards for the touchdown. The final score of the game came via the legs of Knowlton, who returned a punt 46 yards to put W-G ahead 54-6. For the Tigers, Ryan Spencer led the way on the ground, rushing eight times for 73 yards. Knowlton carried the rock 17 times for 62 yards. Through the air for W-G, Horn hauled in two passes for 42 yards. W-G plays host to Upper Scioto Valley on Friday. |
