Past to future: Wintzer Co. finds artifacts during build

Few people exhibit an enthusiasm about historical artifacts as Jim Bowsher does.
When crews working for G.A. Wintzer and Son Co. started working to build new office space on West Auglaize Street, they came across some interesting finds where a rental home had previously sat.
Jim Kent and others of Kent Surveying began finding pieces of artifacts. They called in local history buff, Bowsher, to try to figure out what the bits and pieces meant.

Vote set on name change
Wednesday, 14 October 2009

NEW BREMEN — Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities Board members discussed how a delegate would vote during an assembly later this year during Monday’s meeting.
Superintendent Al Willis, the board’s delegate for the Ohio Association of County Boards of Developmental Disabilities for the December assembly, announced the four resolutions that will be discussed.
The first resolution is with the name change removing mental retardation from the board’s name, the second is making the Joint Leadership Team a permanent part of the association’s agenda and procedures and the third is a change in the duties of the president of the OACBDD.
“The fourth is referring to the dollars spent on Early Intervention,” Willis said. “It’s to solidify Early Intervention as a service of the OACBDD.”
If the resolution does not pass, the superintendent said it would change how Early Intervention is funded.
“Our Early Intervention program is totally with local funds — passing this is to protect our program,” Willis said. “Family Children First Council wants to run the program.”
During the meeting, board members approved having Willis to vote in favor of each of the resolutions.
Willis also updated board members on the Enhanced Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage.
“EFMAP is federal Medicaid money for a 2-year period that has to be spent on Medicaid functions,” he said. “We have to keep track of what we spend it on.”
How the board is to keep track, Willis said, will be better explained during a symposium with representatives from the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
“We are working with the county auditor,” Willis said, noting there will be a statewide audit on the program in the near future.
In addition to hearing reports from the directors, board members:
• Accepted the September vouchers from the Finance/Personnel Committee.
• Scheduled a strategic planning session, where at no action will be taken, for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 to discuss the Annual Action Plan.
Board members entered into executive session to discuss negotiation preparation and no action was taken when they reconvened into regular session.
The next meeting of the Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Nov. 9 at the ABC Center in New Bremen.
