Past to future: Wintzer Co. finds artifacts during build

 Image

By JENNIFER TANGEMAN
Staff Writer
Few people exhibit an enthusiasm about historical artifacts as Jim Bowsher does.
When crews working for G.A. Wintzer and Son Co. started working to build new office space on West Auglaize Street, they came across some interesting finds where a rental home had previously sat.
Jim Kent and others of Kent Surveying began finding pieces of artifacts. They called in local history buff, Bowsher, to try to figure out what the bits and pieces meant.

Area man killed
Monday, 24 August 2009
By MATT NICHOLS
Staff Writer
A Waynesfield man was killed, and two others injured in a rollover accident Sunday morning.
According to a report by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Nicholas Hardin Jr., 24, of Waynesfield, was killed at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday after losing control of his 2001 Chevrolet Silverado while driving east on Middle Pike Road near the intersection of Bachman Road.
Hardin’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, struck a concrete culvert, went airborne and overturned.
According to the report, Hardin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Auglaize County coroner.
Two passengers in the truck also were injured in the accident.
Craig Long, 24, of Waynesfield was transported by Wapakoneta Rescue Squad personnel to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima with non-incapacitating injuries.
Gregory Hicks Jr., 24, of New Hampshire was transported by LifeFlight to St. Rita’s Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries.
Long and Hicks were treated and released from the hospital on Sunday.
The incomplete report said results from an alcohol test were still pending, and speed was not believe to be a factor in the crash. Blood-alcohol tests are required in any fatal accident.
No one was wearing a seatbelt in the accident, and Hardin was partially ejected from the truck.
This is the sixth fatal accident in Auglaize County this year.
Four of the previous five were alcohol related, and three of the five involved motorcyclists.
