Search for surveillance equipment continues
Tuesday, 28 July 2009
By KRISTA HAYES
Staff Writer
WAYNESFIELD — The search is still on as Waynesfield Village Council memberscontinue looking for additional surveillance equipment to install in its park as an effort to prevent future vandalism.
After checking with retailers such as  Radio Shack and Sam’s Club, Waynesfield Police Chief Lee Ziegler said he found several cameras and receivers but they did not come packaged with anything like a DVR to record up to long periods of time.
“For me to be able to put something adequate together for the allotted $350 I was allowed might not be possible unless we were to purchase something used,” Ziegler said during Monday night’s meeting.
Councilors advised Ziegler to further check into purchasing additional park surveillance equipment through an on-line retailer or contracting the installment of a new surveillance system out with a security company. He is to have prepared with price quotes for council’s next scheduled meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24.
In an effort to prevent a future insect problem, residents of Waynesfield owning swimming pools with stagnant rain water collecting in them can look forward to receiving a letter from the council addressing the issue.
“We’ve had a lot of complaints about several pools and if the issue is not taken care of soon, it could create a horrid mess, not to mention a growing mosquito problem,” Waynesfield Mayor Mike Ridenour said.
Following the lengthy discussion on the issue, councilors directed Waynesfield Village Administrator Ron Zimmerman and clerk-treasurer Judy Quinlan to team up to get the letters typed up and sent out to all residents with swimming pools.
After several months of waiting, Zimmerman said councilors could expect to have the generator it ordered in by the end of this week.
“We got caught up in the economy and the place that builds the generators actually shut down for two months,” Zimmerman said. “ It should be in sometime this week and we haven’t paid for it yet, but will do so when it arrives and is installed.”
Before adjourning the meeting, Zimmerman also stated that he was finally able to contact the owner of a building located on West Perry Street in regards to cleaning up and securing his property.
“I told him that council wanted the building cleaned up and secured and that it was creating a safety issue, as the mortar holding its walls up is looking to give out soon,” Zimmerman said. “There was no argument and the resident was compliant.”
Zimmerman said that he also advised the resident to remove the more than 50 tires he had collected under a village water tower. The resident said he was planning to tare down and get rid of the building as soon as he removed his storage items from the premises.
