Area residents used snowblowers, snow plows and snow shovels to dig out from a winter storm that hit late Friday and Saturday. Another storm is to hit tonight. Staff photo/William Laney MIKE BURKHOLDER and WILLIAM LANEY Staff Writers A winter snow storm, which dumped as much as 3 feet in the Washington, D.C. area, hit the area with as much as 9 inches of snow in Wapakoneta and some areas of Auglaize County. The snowfall came with high winds which created drifts as tall as 4 feet causing hazards for the city and county roadways. Wapakoneta weather observer Dan Dietz calculated 8.5 inches of snow fell in Wapakoneta Friday and Saturday. The National Weather Service is predicting as much as 10 more inches starting with a light snow at midnight with most of the snow falling throughout the day Tuesday before tapering off early Wednesday morning. Wapakoneta Public Works Superintendent Meril Simpson said city crews hit the roads at 4 a.m. Saturday, but the high winds hampered their effforts. Crews worked until 4:15 p.m.. Saturday and returned Sunday and worked from 7 a.m. to 1p.m. before heading back out early this morning. “We are attempting to clear the roadways the best we can and we are dumping more salt and grit this time,” Simpson said this morning. “The temperature is still too cold for the salt to work, but if we get enough sun it may warm it up enough to help.”

Josephus Petaway, 33, and Nicholas Petaway, 29, both of Lima, got into a verbal argument over something that happened in the past, Eberle said. A window was broken out of a car owned by Nicole Jordan during the altercation. No charges have been filed at this point. According to the report: The boy was supposed to spend the weekend with his mother in Lima, but Tia Legg called several times threatening India Melton and saying she was going to take the boy out of state and not return. A complaint already was filed with the Lima Police Department about the threats and they had spoken with the mother, but Melton wanted something filed in the county where she lives at 211 Wapakoneta St., Waynesfield, too. • Gasoline was taken from a vehicle at 122 Cedarhurst Drive, St. Marys, during the past week. The theft was reported at 10:20 p.m. Monday. Three-fourths a tank was missing from the front tank and between one-half and three-fourths of a tank missing from the rear tank of the Ford F-150’s dual tanks. In total it was estimated that approximately 20 gallons were missing. Extra patrol was requested. • Vandalism was reportedly done to a vehicle parked at 12751 County Road 25A North between 3 and 11:55 a.m. Sunday. According to the report: Donald Crawford was at the trailer park again and telling Randy White and other residents that they were “going to die.” White in turn said he had a crow bar he could use. He said Crawford was upset because he was served paperwork no longer allowing him at the trailer park. Other residents of Spencer Circle said Crawford had been a nuisance for months, threatening to beat people up, kill families and set trailers on fire. Previous reports have been filed with the Cridersville Police Department. Crawford denied all of it and found somewhere else to stay for the night. He is on adult probation out of Shelby County and was advised if there were future dealings with him, he could be arrested. • A Cridersville man called at 3 a.m. Tuesday wanting his roommate out of the house.
