Consolidation consent
By WILLIAM LANEY
Managing Editor
Members of two western Ohio farm cooperatives overwhelmingly passed the consolidation of Advanced Agri-Solutions Inc. and Southwest Landmark Inc. to form a new company, Trupointe Cooperative Inc.
Advanced Agri-Solution President and CEO Larry Hammond announced Monday during a teleconference that the members of both cooperatives voted in favor of the consolidation and that the two operations will become one. The consolidation takes effect Sept. 1.
The votes on consolidation of the two cooperatives passed with 77.1 percent of the 1,294 ballots cast by Advanced Agri-Solutions members and 82 percent of the 632 ballots cast by Southwest Landmark members in favor of the decision. Sixty percent was needed.
“Obviously, the consolidation provides us with some cost-savings, some synergies and some efficiencies by operating one corporate structure instead of two,” Hammond said. “It also allows our customers and members to take advantage of our employee expertise, while our employees can focus on a more specific area and develop and help farmers by having more specialized knowledge.”

Wapak ZBA seat vacated
Tuesday, 30 June 2009

A recent move out of the city by a member of the Wapakoneta City Zoning Board of Appeals leaves a position open on the board.
Mayor Rodney Metz started a search earlier this month to replace long-time board member Larry Marker, who moved from Wapakoneta to Cridersville. To serve on the board, a member must live within the city limits.
“I was very pleased with the work Larry Marker did as a member on the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Wapakoneta City Planning Commission,” Metz said after Monday’s meeting. “I appreciated his involvement on the two boards and his dedicated service in the past to the city.”
The Zoning Board of Appeals consists of Board Chair Dale Thomas and members Paul Eisert, Ernie Hollenbacher and Russ Slonecker. They typically meet monthly on the last Monday of the month.
The mayor reviewed the major responsibilities of the position.
“Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals review the requests for variances in zoning and to review the properties in question and to follow the ordinances and regulations of the city of Wapakoneta,” Metz said.
The mayor announced he is working to appoint Eisert as the Zoning Board of Appeals representative on the Planning Commission.     The Planning Commission consists of the mayor, the safety-service director, a Zoning Board of Appeals member and two at-large seats.
Members of the Planning Commission include Denny Kemper, Jim Walls, Safety-Service Director Rex Katterheinrich and Metz. Marker served as the representative from the Zoning Board of Appeals on the Planning Commission. The mayor also is seeking to fill positions on other boards and commissions including the city’s Solid Waste Minimization Commission.
During Monday’s Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, members unanimously approved two zoning variances for Virginia Miller, 411 E. Auglaize St. She intends to build a 24-foot square garage on her property near Brighthorn and Middle streets.
The garage would likely be farther from the property line than an existing barn. She received a 23-foot variance for Middle Street and a 16-foot variance for Brighthorn Street.
She has one year for the garage to be built after the variances become official in 34 days.
